Nancy Bannon is a performer, writer, director and teacher. She is currently one of six directors selected for a NYWIFT program guiding female, first time feature directors through development, turning the chosen script into a project.
Nancy’s original feature screenplays have been recognized by festivals, contests and labs including: Sundance Screenwriters Lab (second round qualifier 2013, 2015), Francis Ford Coppola’s Zoetrope Studios (quarterfinalist), Slamdance Film Festival (grand prize finalist), Nicholl Fellowship (quarterfinalist 2017), Boston Film Festival's Script to Screen program and have been optioned by production companies.
She has written and directed four short films. Screeners of her shorts have been requested by MoMA’s New Directors/New Films selection committee, Creative Minds group and various festival programmers.
Original theater work (she conceived, wrote and directed) includes Cornfield, Puncture, The Pod Project (all immersive events, NYC) and, as movement director, Romeo and Juliet (with Orlando Bloom) on Broadway and Murder Ballad and Pas De Deux at Studio Theatre in Washington, DC.
As an actor, Nancy was recently seen in Occupied Territories, a new play which she also wrote (nominated for five Helen Hayes Awards) and will continue in the lead role with that production in its upcoming incarnations including multiple U.S. cities and an Off-Broadway run beginning October, 2017. Nancy is a former dancer and danced for over a decade with the dance companies of Doug Varone, Tere O'Connor and Lar Lubavitch.
Nancy is the recipient of three Princess Grace Awards, a New York Dance and Performance (Bessie) Award, multiple prizes and scholarships and is a graduate of The Juilliard School. She has served on the faculties of SUNY Purchase and Rutgers University and teaches acting at the Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory in DC. Recently, she was enrolled in an MFA in Film program with Christine Vachon from Killer Films.
